Scratch Block Coding Advanced – Upper Elementary and Middle School
July 17 @ 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Scratch is the world’s largest free coding community for kids. It was created and is run by MIT, and it is a lot of fun!
Scratch, like other block-based coding languages, is a good place for kids to start. They learn the structure of coding without needing to worry about a lot of syntax. The pieces of code are each in block format, and the programming is done by connecting blocks to describe the animation of objects that they also create.
Scratch is designed primarily for ages 8 through 16, but it is enjoyed by people of any age. Some understanding of arithmetic and grids is useful.
We have lessons for two levels to take into account a student’s ability to understand and be able to manipulate the programming language, as well as a range of attention spans. If your child is self directed, and has experience with Scratch, the advanced lesson may be appropriate.
For most children below age 8, Scratch Jr is a good option, and can be taught in individual lessons. Please call to make an appointment.
After this lesson you can make additional appointments to learn more, continue coding, or to put this topic into use.
After online registration closes, please contact SDM for space availability.
This topic can also be taught at any time in individual sessions. Please call for more information.
Cancellation must be at least 48 hours before the lesson begins to avoid further appointment restrictions.
